EASTON, CT — Police are reporting they have closed their investigation of a dead sheep found in the river near South Park Avenue and Buck Hill Road.

The Easton Police Department was first called to investigate on Aug. 21 and discovered a slaughtered adult ram, a burned-out candle, and "some sort of white powder poured on the ground in a rectangular pattern" about 15 feet away.

With the assistance of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Agriculture Department, they learned the animal had been professionally butchered elsewhere.
