Easton & Weston Lawmakers: Republican Budget Plan Doesn't Cut Local Education Funding
Makes Structural Changes Without Tax Hikes

HARTFORD – State Rep. John Shaban and State Sen. Tony Hwang and Toni Boucher today praised the alternative state budget put forth by legislative Republicans for its structural reforms, its emphasis on local education funding, and its lack of any tax or fee hikes.
“A stable tax and regulatory environment will return prosperity to the State of Connecticut, not more rate and rule changes,” said Rep. Shaban. “This five-year plan restores needed predictability – and protects education and necessary program funding – so that the private sector and our towns can plan, budget and grow in a manner that promotes both economic development and opportunity for everyone.”
Sen. Hwang said, “Our priority as lawmakers must be to restore predictability, sustainability and transparency to our state’s finances. Our plan will hold harmless state funding for local education and protect services for our most vulnerable residents while making fundamental, long-term, structural reforms. We can do this without tax or fee hikes on residents and businesses. We look forward to these sound, common sense ideas being passed soon so that we can put Connecticut back on a stable, sustainable budget path.”

Sen. Boucher said, “Republicans are once again leading the way out of deficit with a common sense budget in Connecticut. This is a budget that protects education funding for our children, restores funding to the core services government needs to provide, and invests billions in our transportation infrastructure upgrades. It does this while balancing the budget, holding the line on taxes, and delivering $1 billion in surpluses over five years. This is a budget, that if passed will restore fiscal sanity to our state and deliver the stability businesses need to create jobs. ”
