Forty Connecticut elected and Democratic party officials announced their support for Rep. Anne Hughes (AD-135) in an endorsement letter on Sunday ahead of the August 11 Democratic primary.

Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz, House Majority Leader Matt Ritter, Easton First Selectman David Bindelglass, Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey of Fairfield, Rep. Raghib Allie-Brennan of Bethel, Easton Selectman Bob Lessler, and 35 other officials signed the letter -- signaling broad support for Hughes from her colleagues and Democrats in and around the district.

“More than at any point in our lifetimes, the future of Connecticut will be shaped by the decisions we make in the coming months,” the authors wrote in the letter. “Anne understands what it takes to meet this moment.”

Rep. Anne Hughes knows that local politics is anything but small, that a conversation with a constituent can save a life and that one law’s impact can change the future for everyone.

It is this understanding of the power of representation that has led Anne to always listen to the quietest voices in the room, to advocate tirelessly for her constituents, and to stand up for the most vulnerable, wherever and whoever they are.

More than at any point in our lifetimes, the future of Connecticut will be shaped by the decisions we make in the coming months. Anne’s inclusive response to the COVID-19 crisis — providing constant updates, advocating for the safety of Connecticut voters, organizing teams of volunteers to provide essential supplies, and working every day to connect constituents with the resources they need — has shown us that Anne understands what it takes to meet this moment.

We are proud to endorse Anne for a second term.
