Fairfield's Fairways: 120 Years of Golf

June 11-October 11; Hours: Daily, 10am- 4pm Fee: $5 Adults, $3 Seniors & Students, free for members and children 5 and under

June 11-October 11

This exhibition celebrates Fairfield’s long history of golf over the past 120 years. From the founding of the Brooklawn Country Club in 1895, when golf first emerged as a national obsession, to the Country Club of Fairfield, created during golf’s first “golden age,” and the Patterson Club following World War II, Fairfield’s country clubs provided the space for golf to flourish. As time went on, public golf courses – including Fairchild Wheeler, among the nation’s earliest municipal courses – opened up the sport to others in the community. The exhibition will highlight notable golfers from the area, including Gene Sarazen, Julius Boros, and J.J. Henry; important tournaments that have been played here; and changes in the game over time.
