Fishing Season Opens At Reservoir In Weston, Redding - What To Know

WESTON-REDDING-EASTON, CT — Fishing season is returning to a popular local reservoir, giving anglers in the Weston and Redding area a chance to get back outdoors.

Aquarion Water Company’s annual fishing program began Saturday, April 11, opening access to the Saugatuck Reservoir.

The reservoir spans parts of both Weston and Redding and is one of only three Aquarion reservoirs in the state where fishing is permitted.

The seasonal program runs through Dec. 31 and allows fishing daily, including holidays, from 6 a.m. until a half-hour after sunset.

To fish at the reservoir, anglers must have both a valid Connecticut state fishing license and an Aquarion fishing permit.

Season permits cost $30, while one-day permits are available for $10. Seniors, veterans and individuals with disabilities may qualify for free permits.

Fishing is only allowed in designated areas, and strict rules are in place because the reservoir is part of the region’s public drinking water supply.

Boating, swimming and wading are not permitted, and anglers must fish from the shoreline or designated docks.

Officials remind visitors to properly dispose of trash and avoid introducing any materials into the water to help protect water quality.

Permits are available at several locations, including town clerk offices in Weston and Redding.
