Former Redding Man Pleads Guilty To Child Sex Assault

Former Redding Board of Education chairwoman Sara Sobel is a co-defendant in the case.

REDDING, CT — Former Redding resident Stephen Overby pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury and possession of child pornography. The plea deal calls for 18 years in prison followed by 20 years of probation.

Prosecutors allege that co-defendant and former Redding Board of Education chairwoman Sara Sobel gave some of the material to Overby, according to the News-Times.

Sobel and husband Jon Sobel were charged last year with risk of injury to a minor. Sara Sobel was later charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault.
