Fraud, Car Crashes On Icy Roads, Top Redding Police Blotter Jan. 8-15

REDDING, CT —Fraud complaints and car crashes continue to dominate the Redding Police Department blotter the second week of 2024.

On Jan. 12, a Dan Beard Lane resident told the Redding police that someone had opened a Macy's credit card in his name. The victim cancelled the card, and no money was lost.

The next day, a Lonetown Road resident made the same complaint about a credit card opened in her name. The victim was also able to cancel the account before any charged accrued. Police have logged both incidents as fraud.

A motorist was injured in Jan. 14 when they hit a patch of ice and slid into a ditch while travelling Route 7/Ethan Allen Highway. The driver was taken to Danbury Hospital Emergency Room, and given a warning for traveling too fast for the condition of the road.

Two other motorists were issued the same warning after separate incidents on Jan. 12. One left the ice and hit a fence on Route 107/Redding Road, the other a stone wall on Route 53/Glen Road. Both crashes resulted in property damage as well, according to the police reports.

Police are also looking into a two-vehicle crash on Route 58 on Jan. 8, with no injuries reported. The incident is still under investigation, and no further details are available.

A Gallows Hill Road resident complained to police that someone smashed his mailbox during the overnight hours leading into Jan. 14.
