General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt to Speak Jan. 22 in Westport

Immelt, chairman of the board and CEO of the Fortune 500 company, will speak Jan. 22 before the Y's Men of Westport/Weston.

Jeffrey R. Immelt, Chairman of the Board and CEO of GE, will be the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston’s featured speaker at its Jan. 22 meeting at the Unitarian Church in Westport at 10 Lyons Plains Rd.

He will talk on what he has been doing at GE and what he sees as challenges for the economy and the country going forward. Coffee and donuts start at 9:45 a.m.; Mr. Immelt’s talk at 10:30 a.m.

A gradate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School, Mr. Immelt joined GE in 1982 and succeeded Jack Welch as CEO and Chairman of the Board in 2001.

He also served as Chairman of the Business Council in 2005 and 2006 and the chair of President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Mr. Immelt has been named one of the “World’s Best CEOs” three times by Barron’s, and since he began serving as CEO, GE has been named “America’s Most Admired Company” in a poll conducted by Fortune Magazine and one of “The World’s Most Respected Companies” in polls by Barron’s and the Financial times.

The Y’s Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of semi-retired and retired men with a continued interest in activity, fellowship, learning and community service.
