Halloween Week Redding Police Blotter: Crashes And A Postal Box Theft

There were plenty of accidents on the Redding roads in the week leading up to Halloween, according to police.

REDDING. CT — There were plenty of accidents on the Redding roads — and theft of checks from a postal box — in the week leading up to Halloween, according to the Redding Police Department.

On Oct. 25, a motorist driving northbound on Rt. 53 swerved to avoid a deer which had run onto the road. The deer was unharmed, but the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, after losing control of the vehicle, striking some large rocks, and rolling over onto the roof in the northbound lane.

The next day, police reported that a motorist travelling eastbound on Seventy Acre Road was blinded by sun glare when turning in Windy Hill Road and collided with a westbound vehicle. No injuries were reported.

On Oct. 27, a Goodsell Hill Road resident reported seeing a vehicle drive into a stonewall on her property. Police caught up with the driver a short time later, and issued an infraction ticket for failure to maintain the proper lane. The driver said he didn't realize the wall was damaged, according to the Redding police.

In a different but similar incident the following day, a Peaceable Street resident reported that a few rocks had been dislodged from a wall on their property. Police say the damage may have been caused by a delivery truck.

The only mischief the Redding police reported for Halloween occurred when one motorist rear-ended another on Giles Hill Road. No injuries were reported.

The next day, a motorist lost control of their vehicle rounding a curve travelling eastbound on Deer Hill Road, struck a set of wire rope guardrails, then rolled over onto the roof. The driver was taken to the Hospital for minor injuries and observation.

On Nov. 2, police say a motorist "wasn't paying attention" and rear ended another vehicle that had stopped to make a left turn onto Gallows Hill Road from Route 53. Neither driver was injured, and police issued the first motorist a warning for following too close.

The same day, a Lonetown Road resident reported that some checks were stolen from the Postal Box located near the Town Green, and cashed. The Postal Inspector was notified of the theft and the Redding Police Department is continuing its investigation.
