REDDING, CT — A reported identity theft, multiple crashes and deer where they weren't supposed to be topped the Redding police blotter the past week.
On Feb. 15, one vehicle crossed the yellow line while traveling westbound on Diamond Hill Road and sideswiped another vehicle moving in the opposite direction. No injuries were reported, but police issued a warning to the driver of the first car for failing to drive in the proper lane.
A non-driver, and non-human, was at fault on Feb. 16 when a human driving northbound on Lonetown Road swerved to avoid striking a deer. Te driver lost control then struck a section of wire rope guard rails located in the northbound shoulder of the roadway. No injuries were reported.

More deer, more trouble, on Feb. 18, when a driver swerved to avoid a cloven-footed interloper and lost control of the vehicle on a Gallows Hill Road curve. The vehicle then struck a utility pole off into the westbound shoulder. The driver complained of a headache and was taken to Danbury Hospital.
The injuries were more serious on Feb. 21, when a driver lost control of their vehicle traveling southbound on Route 53 through the Saugatuck Reservoir area. The vehicle crossed over the centerline into the northbound shoulder and struck three trees. The driver suffered moderate-to-serious head injuries, according to Chief Mark O'Donnell, and was taken to Danbury Hospital's Emergency Room for treatment and further evaluation.

"It was determined by the investigating officer's on the scene, that the operator was driving at a high rate of speed, causing the crash," O'Donnell said. Police issued the driver a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving and failure to drive right of the center line.
Also on Feb. 18, a Deer Hill Road resident filed a complaint with the Redding Police Department, claiming someone had attempted to open up a Discovery account in her name. The identity theft investigation is still open.
