Identity Theft, Motor Mishaps Top Redding Police Blotter July 18-23

REDDING, CT — Identify theft and traffic mishaps were at the top of the Redding Police Department blotter last week.
On July 18, a Great Oak Lane resident told the Redding Police Department of being notified by his employer that someone attempted to file a claim for unemployment benefits in his name. Police referred the complainant to the Connecticut Department of Labor, which is investigating multiple such identity theft reports throughout the State.
Also on that date, a box delivery truck struck a utility pole in the southbound shoulder of Poverty Hollow Road, causing the pole to snap in place. The wide truck had edged to the far right of the road in an effort to avoid an oncoming vehicle in the northbound lane. No injuries were reported.

Another near collision occurred the same day along a narrow section of Pinetree Road, according to police. A northbound motorist stopped to allow a vehicle coming in the opposite direction to slip by. Police say the driver of the southbound vehicle then sideswiped the stopped vehicle and drove off. No injuries were reported.
On July 23, a motorcyclist travelling along Route 58 lost control when applying the brakes at the intersection with Cross Highway. The motorcycle slid through the intersection on its right side, according to police. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being transported by EMS personnel to Danbury Hospital for further treatment and observation.
