Good afternoon,

We have had several significant auto accidents in town in a relatively short time frame recently. The police department is looking into whether the recent concentration is indicative of a real trend. We collect data and crashes, traffic stops and speeds which are registered by the speed signs such as you see in front of Silverman’s and the elementary school. The police commission, the chief and I are looking into data and into what we might do to make our roads safer. The chief will be presenting at the June 27, Board of Selectmen meeting.

The Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Governments (MetroCOG), which represents the municipalities of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull recently released the draft update to the Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, available at https://bit.ly/draft-nhmp (case sensitive) and/or https://ctmetro.org/regional-planning/environmental-planning/. The public is welcomed and encouraged to review and comment on the draft Plan through Friday, June 28th, 2024. Throughout the month of June, MetroCOG will be offering opportunities for the public to attend a Public Information Meeting where residents, businesses and stakeholders can learn about the plan, ask questions and provide input. State Senator Tony Hwang, and State Representatives Tony Scott and Anne Hughes, will be hosting and invite you to Easton’s State Legislative Community Update on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. at the Easton Public Library (691 Morehouse Road, Easton, CT).

This forum is an opportunity for taxpayers and residents to ask questions about the state legislature’s past session and discuss legislative priorities, achievements, and new laws with their elected representatives. The event is free and open to the public.

Moderator Joe Schwartz, long time Easton resident, State Senator, and BOE member who moderated a number of town meetings in the past has agreed to facilitate a round table discussion on moderating a town meeting in Easton. This will not be a lecture, but rather a discussion about procedural issues, Roberts Rules, and Easton specific issues. It will be held, June 26 at 7 PM, in the library community room. Anyone with an interest in becoming a moderator is welcome.

Planning and Zoning invites you to our third ‘WELCOME TO EASTON’ sign unveiling and reception on Saturday, June 8, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at the Easton Public Library - back patio. Over 200 students from SSES, HKMS and JBHS submitted their artwork with the theme of ‘Easton Holidays and Horse Farms’ depicting characteristics of our town. Students from each grade have been notified of their winning artwork. This new signage will be installed at the Stepney Road entrance to Easton. Welcome to all and please join us to celebrate the talents of our Easton youth enjoy Shaggy Coos gelato. This project is sponsored by Easton Planning & Zoning, The Easton Arts Council and Samantha Olschan, digital designer.

The senior center has hired Andrew Darrow as a new senior center van driver. He is a long time resident and retired firefighter. During his first month he combined those skills as he stopped to assist in putting out a car fire! Welcome Andrew.

We planted a new tree at the library this week. The tree was a gift from UI as part of their Right Tree, Right Place program.

The Town of Easton will be reclaiming, and paving Soundview Dr and Far Horizons Dr. from #62 Far Horizons Dr. to Harvest Moon Rd (east intersection) beginning Monday, June 10, 2024 weather permitting. Roads will be closed to thru traffic, please use alternate routes.
