Korean War Veteran Dr. Peter J. Bartelloni, MD, age 87 of Easton, Passed Away
Per his wishes, there will be no wake or funeral. Burial with full military honors was held on Tuesday in Bourne, Massachusetts.

EASTON, CT — Dr. Peter J. Bartelloni, MD, age 87 of Easton, CT, beloved husband of 66 years to Virginia Hurteau Bartelloni, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Born in Franklin, MA the son of the late Hector and Orlanda Bartelloni. He was a graduate of the University of Vermont Medical School. Dr. Bartelloni served his residency in Internal Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He earned his Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Physicians, with specialty in Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Bartelloni faithfully served in the United States Army for 25 years, retiring as a Colonel in 1976. His military service included engagements in Korea, Germany, Vietnam, Hawaii and numerous locations in North America. He served as Chief of the Medical Division of the Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD. In Hawaii in 1975, he was lead physician to the Apollo/Soyuz astronauts of the first International Space Mission. Also in Hawaii, he served as a consultant in teaching at the Queen's Medical Center, and taught Tropical Medicine and Medical Microbiology at the University of Hawaii.

Dr. Bartelloni spent his last years in the field of medicine as Director of Medical Ambulatory Care at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT and retired in 2009. Dr. Bartelloni contributed over 50 articles and research findings that were published in numerous medical journals and books. He spent his life in the pursuit of compassionate medicine for all. He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the Society for Hospital Epidemiology of America. He was an avid sailor and fisherman.
Survivors in addition to his wife Virginia include four children, Peter Bartelloni Jr., his wife Sharon and sons, Michael and Nicholas, Karen Bartelloni Foster, her husband Dodd and son, Clark, Debra Bartelloni Hayes, her husband Adam and son, Jacob and Lynn Bartelloni Banigan and daughter, Caitlin. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Alyssa Bartelloni, and two brothers, Henry and Enzo Bartelloni. Per his wishes, there will be no wake or funeral.

Dr. Bartelloni will be interred with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend the burial service.
