Ravioli, which means large, single filled pasta shape, can be filled with beef, chicken, seafood or vegetables and topped with marinara, alfredo or a number of sauces.

MobileCuisine.com states that the earliest mention of ravioli comes from the writings of Francesco di Marco, a merchant of Venice in the 14th century.
