Meyer-Brysac Lecture Series: Iraq 101

Weston Public Library hosts the lecture "Iraq 101: The Making of a Quagmire," discussing causes of the ongoing strife in the Middle East.

In an illustrated lecture, Blair Brysac and Karl E. Meyer will look beneath headlines about Iraq to summarize the deeper roots of ongoing strife, most especially spongy frontier between Iraq and Syria drawn by the British and French post-World War One. The Weston authors will draw on their writings (notably “Kingmakers: The Invention of the Modern Middle East ”) and suggest other books, articles and blogs too often overlooked that shed light on possible paths out of present quagmire, while welcoming questions and comments.
