Missing Teen And Fraud Top Redding Police Blotter For June 20-July 9

REDDING, CT — A missing teen, two claims of fraud, and plenty of collisions were at the top of the Redding over the past two weeks.
An Old Hattertown Road resident reported their 14-year-old was missing for about three hours as of 12:34 a.m. on June 20. The Redding Police Department initiated a search, which was called off at 1:08 a.m. when the youth returned home.
No one was injured on June 20 when two vehicles collided when one crossed over the centerline moving northbound and sideswiped a vehicle moving in the opposite direction. Police cited the southbound motorist for driving without a license, and the northbound driver for failure to drive right on a curve and for not having any registration.

Also on June 20, a Route 58 resident reported someone had entered their home through an unlocked door between 10:30 and 11:45 a.m. and walked off with the following:

- Samsung Tablet $400

A Route 107/Hill Road resident complained to police on June 20 that someone had stolen her identity and attempted to file for unemployment benefits in her name. A Route 58 resident filed the same complaint with police on June 28. Both investigations remain open.
On June 21, a motorist told police that "he either fainted or fell asleep and lost control" while rounding a sharp curve westbound on Cross Highway, before striking a utility pole in the westbound shoulder. EMS crews took the driver to the hospital for minor injuries and further observation. The investigation remains open.
The next day, a motorist traveling northbound on Route 53 tried to make a left turn onto Sidecut Road, lost control, and then drove into a stonewall / wooded area. Police issued the driver a warning for traveling too fast to negotiate a turn properly. No injuries were reported.
Along a narrow section of Longridge Road on June 28, two vehicles moving in opposite directions clipped each other's driver's side mirrors. No enforcement action taken, according to Redding Police Chief Mark O'Donnell.
A week later on the same road, two more vehicles lost their side mirrors when a motorist drifted over the center of the street, sideswiping the second vehicle as it passed by in the opposite direction. No injuries were reported, according to police.
A resident visited the Redding Police Headquarters on June 29 to file a complaint about a hit-and-run on Sport Hill Road. The complainant told police the other motorist was traveling southbound on Sport Hill Road when they sideswiped them before driving away from the scene. No description of the evading vehicle could be provided, and it has not yet been located, according to police.
On June 30, a Little River Lane resident told police that his son's license plates were stolen off his parked car while parked in the driveway sometime overnight.
Someone stole $20,000 from a Sunset Hill Road resident's bank account, according to a complaint made to police on July 2. There were no further details available as of July 11, and the investigation is still open.
A vehicle that swerved to avoid a deer while moving southbound on Mountain Road on July 2 struck a utility pole in the southbound shoulder when the driver lost control. The motorist refused medical treatment at the scene, according to police.
A three-vehicle collision occurred when a motorist stopped to make a turn while travelling northbound along Route 53 on July 5. That driver was rear ended by the vehicle behind them, who in turn was rear ended by a third vehicle. Police issued warnings to the second and third drivers for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Finally, there are no injuries to report following a motor vehicle accident on Pheasant Ridge Road July 3, No other details have been released as of July 11.
