Motor Vehicle Collisions Top Redding Police Blotter Jan. 1-7

REDDING, CT — Motor vehicle collisions dominated the Redding Police Department blotter the first week of 2024.
On Jan. 3, a motorist collided with a utility pole on High Ridge Road. The accident resulted in wires falling atop the vehicle, trapping the driver inside until Eversource crews could de-energize the cables. There were no injuries. The motorist told police that "he looked down at his GPS then drifted off into the shoulder, striking the pole," according to the police report. He was issued a ticket for unsafe driving.
That same day, Redding police responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a deer on Newtown Turnpike. Officers found the deer dead in the road, but no injuries were reported by the motorist. The Highway Department was alerted to remove the deer.

One motorist complained of hip pain following a two vehicle accident on Jan. 4 along Ethan Allen Highway/Route 7, according to the police report.
No injuries were reported to police after one vehicle backed into another in a parking lot off of Old Mill Road on Jan. 6. The next day, a Department of Public Works truck backed into a parked vehicle during snow removal on Blueberry Hill Road.

No injuries were reported when one motorist turned into the path of another along Black Rock Turnpike on Jan. 7, according to police. The driver was ticketed for failing to grant the right of way.
