Obituary: Doris Norman, Ph.D, 89, of Redding
For many years, Doris was a professor of counseling psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

REDDING, CT -- Doris Norman, Ph.D, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 12th, 2018 in Redding.
Dr. Norman was born May 10th, 1929 to the late Wade and Anna Sewell in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was one of 13 children.
She spent much of her life dedicated to higher education, graduating with a bachelor's degree from Bennett College, a Master's degree in Education from Boston University, a second Master's degree in Native American studies from Harvard University, and a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from Boston University. For many years, she was a professor of counseling psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

She and her husband, the late noted cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. John C. Norman lived in Concord, Massachusetts for over 40 years. She was the proprietor of Many Nations Trading Post from 1980 until 2011, first in Marlborough, and later at 19 Main St. in Concord. She traveled across North America purchasing wares directly from native artists and participating in native cultural events.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Norman, her son-in-law Sam Fouad, and two grandchildren Noah and Mickaela Fouad. The funeral will be Thursday, August 16th at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.
