Obituary: Joan Aspbury Howell, 82, of Weston

Joan was a substitute teacher in the Weston school system throughout her children's education in Weston.

WESTON, CT —Joan Aspbury Howell, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of James Howell Sr.

Born in Jamaica, Queens, New York on Feb. 2, 1937 she was a daughter of the late George and Ethel Landolt Aspbury.

Joan attended Albion College and transferred to University of Michigan where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education. She also met her husband, James. They moved to Weston in 1970 and raised their four children there until their retirement to East Sandwich, Massachusetts in 1992. Joan was a substitute teacher in the Weston school system throughout her children’s education in Weston. She was also an avid painter, loved to cook, and her baking was her specialty.

She is survived by her three children, Kristin Howell Brooks of Weston, Caroline Howell Schottmuller of Weston and James Howell Jr. of Waterbury; five grandchildren, and a niece and nephew who all will miss her dearly.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 35 Norfield Road, Weston CT 06883. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
