Obituary: Mary J. Callahan, 93, Of Redding

REDDING, CT — Mary J. Callahan, 93, widow of John H. Callahan died May 22, 2023, after a long illness.

She was born June 2, 1929 in Westbury, New York and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1947. She was married to John Callahan for 37 years before his untimely death in 1986. She lived in Redding for over 50 years.

Mary was the bank bookkeeper and teller at the Ridgefield Savings Bank for over 20 years. She loved birds and nature. She volunteered for the Westport Nature Center and led nature walks at Devil’s Den for many years, for which she was recognized with an award from the Nature Conservancy.

She is survived by her sons Michael and Patrick and her daughter, Terry; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and her brother, Joseph Adnet of New Canaan.

Services will be private. Those wishing to remember her may make donations to the Nature Conservancy.
