Pizza, Pizza: The 101 Best Pizzas in America

Several area pizzerias have been rated the best in the country. Did your favorite Weston, Redding or Easton pizzeria make the cut?

Who doesn’t like to grab a slice or two for a quick, tasty lunch or a whole pie for a comfort food dinner?

The Daily Meal, the website that keeps its knives and forks on the culinary pulse of America, has released its 2015 list of the 101 Best Pizzas in America.

And not surprisingly, there are several perennial favorites from Connecticut that made the fourth annual list, including the number 1 pizza joint in the country — Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana of New Haven.

In fact, five New Haven pizzerias made the list. But Pepe’s edged out the competition from around the country with its white clam pizza.

The other New Haven pizzerias making the cut of the pizza wheel were:

Sally’s Apizza at number 5 for its tomato pie; number 13: Modern Apizza for its meat and veggie laden ‘Italian bomb;’ number 61: Bru Room @ Bar for its mashed potato and bacon pizza; and number 75: Ernie’s Pizzeria for its plain pie.

In Fairfield County, Stamford’s Colony Grill made the list again for its sausage pie. It was ranked number 57, slipping several notches from its number 27 ranking in 2013.

The two other Connecticut pizzerias on the list were West Haven’s Zuppardi’s at number 57 and Domenick & Pia’s in Waterbury at number 67.

And for those living in a border town or who don’t mind driving to sate their appetites for all things pizza, there are two Westchester County destinations — Tarry Lodge in Port Chester ranked number 89 for its goat cheese pizza, and Sal’s Pizza in Mamaroneck is number 85 for its fabled Sicilian pizza.
