Practicing Buddhist Prayers
Seven Limbs and Six Perfections Thursdays May 7- June 11, 2015 from 7:00 -8:45 pm

This workshop is designed especially for beginners and open to everyone. Knowledge of Buddhism and meditation is helpful but not required. This class will introduce a meditative practice of Buddhist prayers using three of the most common prayer scriptures as examples: The Aspirational Prayer of Bodhisattva Maitreya, The King of Prayers of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra and The Brief Guru Yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa.
These scriptures teach two sets of practice: the Seven-Limb Practice and the Six Perfections. In addition to traditional Buddhist reading of these prayers, emphasis will be put on their relevance to our daily experience and meditative practice on faith, aspiration, compassion, sorrows, unity, affliction, wisdom and so forth.
Each weekly session will be composed of three elements: a brief talk on the prayer, a guided meditation on the topic and an interactive discussion on its significance.
