Arthur and Gloria Anderson of West Redding renewed their wedding vows on December 10, the day of their 65th wedding anniversary. Justice of the Peace and friend of the couple, Nina L. Stietzel, of Redding, performed the ceremony in a private room at the Redding Roadhouse on Route 53. In attendance were their three daughters and their spouses: Wanda and Alex Dupuy of Middletown, CT; Ginger and Dave Perkins of Sandy Hook, CT; and Lynda Hilton of Scottsdale, AZ. Her spouse, Rick Hilton, was unable to attend. After the ceremony, the family dined together at the restaurant.
Arthur was born in Redding. Gloria was born in the Bronx, New York. They first met when adolescents in 1944 and became a couple five years later when they were reintroduced on a “blind date.” Gloria was living in Georgetown with her maternal aunt at the time. After a brief courtship, the couple decided to go to New York City and get married. They stayed with the bride-to-be’s mother until the wedding ceremony took place later in the week. The couple were married by Pastor Elmer C. Dressel at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Bronx. The newlyweds first settled in Ridgefield and Georgetown. Arthur and Gloria then moved to West Redding, where they have lived since 1955.
