Redding Police Blotter: Extortion, Bike Crash And Another Scam Attempt
An attempted scam and extortion are among the latest investigations the Redding Police are pursuing.
REDDING, CT — Police in Redding began April with a complaint of another scam attempt, as well as what they are describing as an attempt at extortion involving Snap-Chat and some "inappropriate" photos.
On. Apr. 6, police issued a warning to a motorist driving northbound on Turney Road for following too close, after they say the driver rear-ended another vehicle at a stop sign. No injuries were reported.
Injuries were reported following a bicycle crash on Sunday. Police said the cyclist suffered injuries following a crash on Route 53 / Valley Forge Road in Weston.

A North Park Avenue resident told police that someone posing as a representative for McAfee Virus scan advised them to take out $9,500.00 in cash and deposit it into a direct account on Saturday. Police said the complainant realized it was a scam, and contacted the police instead of depositing the money. This investigation remains open.
On Sunday, an Orchard Drive resident told police they had sent "inappropriate photos" to a person on Snap-Chat. The recipient of the photos then demanded $500 be sent to a Paypal account or else the photos would be released to the public, according to police. This investigation remains open.
