Redding Police Chief Investigation Bill Totals $150,000

Inquiry's into whether the actions of police last fall prevented an attempted suicide victim from getting care that might have saved him.

REDDING, CT -- The bill has come due for the investigation last year into whether Police Chief Doug Fuchs mishandled a suicide last year.

The months-long inquiry will total about $150,000, the News-Times is reporting. The revelation came during a Board of Finance meeting on Wednesday.

Fuchs, who allegedly prevented an emergency medical technician from checking on Redding resident Peter Valenti after he attempted suicide, has been placed on administrative leave. Fuchs's actions are the subject of a legal complaint filed last October by Valenti's family.

The town plans to offset the cost of the unanticipated legal fees with a freeze on purchases and other projects, including not paying for overtime for the highway department and stalling roadwork that is not bonded.
