Redding Police Nab Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting A Minor

Police in Redding identified the suspect following an approximately three-month long investigation.

REDDING, CT — A Ridgefield man turned himself in to the Redding Police Department on June 11, on a warrant that included charges of sexual assault and commercial sexual abuse of a minor.

Redding police identified David Birkrant, 45, after an approximately three-month long investigation, and obtained a warrant for his arrest from Danbury Superior Court.

The investigation began following a tip from the Bergen County, NJ, Prosecutor's Office regarding a possible sexual assault that occurred at the Days Inn in Redding in February 2024, according to Redding Police Capt. Timothy Succi.

Birkrant turned himself in on June 11. Police charged him with employing a minor in an obscene performance, second-degree sexual assault, commercial sexual abuse of a minor, soliciting sexual acts, harmful communications with a minor, and injury or risk of injury to, or impairing morals of children, sale of children.

Police held Birkrant was held on a bond of $250,000, which he was unable to post, according to Succi. Birkrant was taken to Danbury Superior Court for arraignment on June 11.
