Redding Preps For Next Phase of Vaccinations

REDDING, CT — The town Department of Health is now estimating that, pending its availability, the coronavirus vaccine will be available to phase 1b groups in February, at the Redding Community Center.

Phase 1b of the vaccine rollout prioritizes residents who are age 75 and older. Additional Phase 1b groups will be accommodated afterwards.

"Our greatest limitation will be related to supply chain matters, which are largely out of our control," said health director Dr. Lawrence Leibowitz. "The vaccine is being distributed from the Connecticut Department of Public Health in a measured way as they receive it themselves."

The town is currently developing a database of those eligible for the vaccine. Residents who qualify for phases 1b and 1c (aged 65 and older) will be asked to sign up in advance to be placed in the vaccine database, which will be available on the town website.

The Health Department is encouraging residents to sign up for notification when the database goes online by subscribing to "News & Announcements" on the website.

Residents need not be vaccinated in Redding,

"Anyone can attend any open COVID clinic that allows you to do so," Leibowitz said. "After January 18 we will be providing a list of alternate ways to sign up to be vaccinated."
