Redding Resident Falls Victim to $111k Phone Scam

Three residents have lost nearly $190,000 to phone scams recently.

Three Redding residents have collectively been scammed out of nearly $190,000 after they received calls from someone claiming to have a child or grandchild locked in jail.

The scam has been going around the country, according to NBC Connecticut. Generally the victim is told that a child or grandchild is being held in foreign country’s jail and instructs the victim to wire money to a bank account. The victims are often elderly.

One Redding resident was scammed out of $111,000.
