Redding Tree Trimming Sparks Debate Over Safety Vs. Scenery

Redding residents claim Eversource is trimming trees too aggressively, however Town officials say the work is needed for safety.

The News Times reported Monday that Eversource’s trimming of trees near power lines, especially along scenic routes, have caused complaints from residents.

Town officials say the work is needed for safety reasons in order to keep trees from falling on power lines, which can cause power outages, start a fire or cause a possible electrocution.

Town officials will hold informational meetings at the start of each tree-trimming cycle to educate the public on the process.
