Road Accidents, ID Theft, Top Redding Police Blotter For Sept. 11-17

REDDING, CT — Three road accidents and another case of identity theft were at the top of the Redding Police Department's blotter this past week.
Four motorists were reminded just how narrow some areas of Pinetree Road are, during two motor vehicle accidents last week that could have been a lot worse.
On Tuesday, two vehicles sideswiped each other's mirrors there, as they passed by on a very narrow section of the roadway.

The next day, a motorist reported to police their vehicle was sideswiped on Pinetree Road when a large box truck passed by way too closely, then drove away. The motorist was unable to provide police with either a license number or description of the truck.
A motorcyclist was injured in an accident on Sunday. No other vehicle as involved in the incident, which occurred on Picketts Ridge Road. The motorcyclist suffered a shoulder injury as a result of the accident, and was taken by EMS to Danbury Hospital for treatment. There were no other details available at the time of this release.

On Sept. 11, a Little River Lane resident complained to police that someone opened up and filed for unemployment benefits in his name. This investigation remains open.
"During the pandemic, stolen identities were available on the dark web for about one dollar," Connecticut Department of Labor Commissioner Danté Bartolomeo said in a statement released in July. "Criminals are still mining this resource to purchase names, Social Security Numbers, birth dates, and other personal information that they use to apply for credit cards, bank loans, and unemployment benefits."
