Sara Sobel Rejects Plea Deal

Sobel, the former chairman of the Redding Board of Ed. has been accused of risk of injury to a minor.

REDDING, CT --- Redding resident and former chairman of the Redding Board of Education Sara Sobelrejected a plea bargain at state Superior court in Danbury, Wednesday morning.

Sara Sobel and her husband Jon Sobel were arrested in April 2017 on a charge of risk of injury to a minor. Police said they failed to cooperate with the Department of Children and Families during an investigation into a sexual assault.

This past February, former Redding resident Stephen Overby pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors have alleged that Sara Sobel gave some of the material to Overby. In court documents, Overby was described as a close personal friend Sara Sobel.
