St. Francis of Assisi Annual Thanksgiving Drive

A way to give back to families in need at Thanksgiving.

St. Francis of Assisi is preparing for their annual Thanksgiving Drive. Please consider joining us as we spread love to those around us who are in need. Missy Iatesta, St. Francis Community Outreach Coordinator, is spearheading this fantastic drive. In addition to food donations, we are collecting baskets and coats this year. Coats of all sizes can be dropped off anytime in the back of the church as well as hats and gloves.

St. Francis is sponsoring 26 baskets for Sister Theresa Tremblay at The Daughters of Charity Preschool in Bridgeport. Baskets will be donated to the 20 preschoolers and 6 teachers at the preschool. In addition, we are making as many baskets as possible for Weston Social Services. There are many families and approximately 40 seniors in Weston who look forward to and truly appreciate the holiday basket of food.

You can help with the Thanksgiving Drive in a few ways. Sponsor a basket of your own. This is a great project as a family or a couple of families working together. It is also a generous community project for a soccer club, confirmation class or a Girl Scout Troop. Items necessary for the baskets are a $25 Stop and Shop Gift Card for purchase of a turkey, bag of potatoes or cans of peeled potatoes, fresh vegetables or a $15 Stop and Shop Gift, canned cranberry sauce, stuffing (bagged or boxed), rolls (not refrigerated), coffee or tea, cookies or pie (some sort of dessert, not refrigerated). Please feel free to personalize the baskets with drawings or homemade cards for that personal touch much appreciated by the families.

You can also donate a check written to St. Francis with a special notation in the memo section, “Thanksgiving Baskets” and the shopping will be done for you. Checks can be dropped off at the rectory office, placed in weekly collection or mailed to St. Francis of Assisi at 35 Norfield Road, Weston, CT 06883.

St. Francis volunteers will be driving down to Sister Tremblay on Sunday, Nov. 20th to deliver baskets to the preschoolers and their families. The second delivery will be to the Weston Social Services Office on Monday, Nov. 21st. Volunteers will be needed to drive both days and assist with the deliveries. Please email Missy Iatesta (missyj30@sbcglobal.net) to let her know if you would like to take on a basket, send in a check, or if you can volunteer to drive.
