A Stolen Car Tops Redding Police Blotter For Sept. 6-10

REDDING, CT — Fender benders, a (briefly) stolen car and ID theft shenanigans were at the top of the Redding Police Department's blotter this past week.
At 4:44 a.m. on Sept. 6, the owner of a 2018 Honda Civic called police to report someone had just stolen a car from the driveway of their Sport Hill Road residence. Five minutes later, police found the stolen Civic parked and unoccupied at the intersection of Stepney Road and Foundry Road.
Later that day, a Peaceable Street resident told police that someone had stolen her husband's social security number and opened an account with Bank of America. The account was canceled before any financial loss could take place, according to police.

The next day, another Peaceable Street resident told police that someone pretending to be a Microsoft representative claimed the victim's computer was compromised and in need of repair. The bogus representative asked the Redding resident to transfer around $30,000 to a particular bank. Instead, the complainant notified their bank and the police.
An Old Stage Coach Road resident told police that someone had stolen a package from his mailbox on Sept. 6, a theft confirmed by the carrier from a photo of delivery. Police advised the complainant to report the incident to the postal inspector.

While traveling southbound on Route 53 on Sept. 6, a motorist was struck by another vehicle that drove through a stop sign posted at the Diamond Hill Road / Route 53 intersection. Police said that a passenger in the first vehicle complained of minor injury and was then checked by EMS personnel on the scene. He was not taken to the hospital.
No one was injured on Sept. 8 when one car hit another, parked and unoccupied, in the lot of Joel Barlow High School, police are reporting.
One driver experienced minor injuries to the hand and arm when their airbag deployed following a collision with another vehicle in front of #439 Route 53 on Sept. 9.
Two more vehicles collided the same day on Seventy Acre Road, but no injuries were reported, according to police.
Finally, on Sept. 10, police were called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Cross Highway. Police found the vehicle located off into the shoulder of the roadway.
