TODAY: Reading of the Declaration of Independence
June 8, 6:00 PM, as part of America 250

As part of America 250 and Connecticut's annual statewide reading of the Declaration of Independence, First Selectman Dan Lent will read the Declaration of Independence on Wednesday, July 8, at 6:00 p.m. in front of Town Hall on Center Road.
The date commemorates July 8, 1776, when the Declaration was first read aloud publicly to citizens after its adoption by the Continental Congress on July 4. The annual July 8 readings honor that historic moment and help launch Connecticut's commemoration of America's upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026. Communities across Connecticut are encouraged to participate in this statewide tradition through CT250, with many of the state's 169 municipalities hosting public readings as part of the celebration. This meaningful event offers an opportunity to reflect on our shared history and the enduring ideals of liberty, unity, and democracy that continue to guide and inspire our community and our nation.
Residents of all ages are warmly invited to join us as we commemorate our nation's founding and celebrate the legacy of the Declaration of Independence.
