Triple-Shooting Connected To Stolen Redding SUV: Police

REDDING, CT — An SUV stolen from a Redding driveway is at the center of a triple-shooting incident in New Haven.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, shortly before 8 a.m., a Limekiln Road resident reported their 2023 Volkswagen Atlas had been stolen from their driveway overnight. In their investigation, Redding police learned the car had been left unlocked with the key fob inside.

About an hour later, Hamden police notified the Redding PD that the stolen Atlas had been recovered in their town. At 9:40 a.m., the New Haven Police Department called their Redding counterparts to say the recovered VW had been used in a triple shooting incident in the city, and they were processing the SUV in their impound garage for evidence, according to Redding Police Chief Mark O'Donnell.

In a Sept. 12 report, a Starrs Ridge Road resident told police someone had entered a few unlocked vehicles in his driveway and had stolen cash from inside them. The investigation remains open.

The same day, police received a report of $1,500 worth of wire being stolen from a construction site at Meadow Ridge on Redding Road.

On Sept. 14, a Black Rock Turnpike resident told police she caught on camera a woman driving down her driveway, exiting her SUV, then taking a child safety seat, assorted children's clothes and a vacuum cleaner from an exterior storage bin. The camera did not catch the SUV's license plate. The approximate value of the items was $1,000, according to police. The investigation remains open.

On Sept. 11, a bear entered the property of a Lonetown Road resident and attacked his goat, according to the police report. The bear attempted to drag the goat away to a wooded area, but was scared off by Redding officers. The goat's owner told police his pet had received some puncture wounds around the neck, but was otherwise okay. The incident is under investigation by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

There were no injuries reported following a two-vehicle accident on Cross Highway/Route 58 in the parking area of Christ Church on Sept. 13.

No arrests were made following a noise complaint by a Great Meadow Road resident on Sept. 14.
