They'll get a brief baseball hiatus before Weston Little League begins its Fall league next month and this All-Star travel team once again will be divided among AAA Weston teams.
Weston's Bernie D'Amato settled for first alternate despite shooting a 4-under par 138 Monday during local qualifying for the U.S. Amateur championship at the New Haven Country Club in Hamden.
Only two spots were available for the 55 players competing. One of them went to Orange's Ryan Leahey, who posted a 36-hole total of 7-under 135.
Play was suspended for two hours late in the day due to lightning and heavy rain. Still, D'Amato appeared to be in good shape after signing for his 138.
However, Spencer Cole of Greenville, S.C., carded a 5-under 137 to bump D'Amato to first alternate.
Shorehaven's Tommy McDonagh, the reigning state amateur champion, was one of three players at 2-under 140.
The U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 22-28 at Erin Hills and Blue Mound Golf and Country Club in Wauwatosa, Wis.
D'Amato is entered in the 109th Met Amateur Championship, which begins Thursday at the Piping Rock Country Club in Locust Valley, N.Y.
