Former Barlow standout Jenn Shinall scored a career-high 28 points in Connecticut College's 82-35 win over Mitchell College on Monday night to become the 12th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points.

Shinall was 9-of-15 from the field, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and also made all four of her free throw attempts. The Camels improved to 6-1.

"I could not have accomplished this without the support of my teammates, friends and family," Shinall said. "Everyone throughout my career has always believed in me and I am truly thankful for that. My teammates did a great job finding me on the floor tonight and I was very thankful for the support they showed me."

Shinall reached the 1,000-point milestone with 8:30 remaining in the first half when she made two free throws for her 16th and 17th points of the game.

"I'm honored to have had the opportunity to coach Jennifer during these three years," coach Brian Wilson said. "She is as competitive and works as hard as any player I have ever coached. Scoring 1,000 points is a testament not only to her natural talent but to her incredible work ethic."

The Weston girls basketball team opens it season on Wednesday at Bunnell in a 7 p.m. tipoff.

The Trojans are coming off a solid 14-9 season in which they advanced to the second round of the Class M state tournament and qualified for the SWC playoffs for the second straight year.

Still, Weston won 11 of its first 12 games before the injury bug hit, leaving the Trojans to wonder what they might have accomplished had they stayed healthy.

Weston suffered some key graduation losses with the departure of last season's captains Christina Welsh, Hannah Hutchins and Dakota Sloop.

The leader of the squad this season will be senior forward Ellie Martin, who averaged a double-double last year with 14 points and 10 rebounds per game, which earned her a spot on the all-Patriot Division team.
