The book is a compact history of basketball in the state of Connecticut, covering outstanding high school teams, college teams and the 33 state natives who have played in the NBA. There are interviews with many of the game's luminaries -- from Naismith Basketball Hall-of-Famer Calvin Murphy (Norwalk) to former NBA stars Charles Smith, Vin Baker, John Bagley, Wes Matthews and the late John Williamson, from former Harlem Globetrotter Alvin Clinkscales to Johnny Egan, Chris Smith, Chuck Aleksinas, Tony Hanson, Ed Goldstone and the inimitable Frank "Porky" Vieira.
Several coaches are featured: The late Fred Barakat of Fairfield University, Dave Bike of Sacred Heart, Dee Rowe, Joe Vancisin, Bill Detrick, Frank Crisafi and Harrison Taylor.
From an area standpoint, there is a strong emphasis on Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University; Roger Ludlowe High School's 1954-55 New England championship team, Bassick High of Bridgeport's undefeated 1988-89 state championship team, and the myriad athletes and coaches who emerged from the Bridgeport playgrounds -- Messrs. Vieira, Vancisin, Taylor, the two Smiths, Matthews, Walter Luckett, Clinkscales, Bagley, et al.
