The Aspetuck Wildcats Association convened its annual banquet on Jan. 20 celebrate its 2011 season. AWA was formed is 1998, and is the AYF sanctioned youth football and cheerleading program for Weston, Easton and Redding.
This year, AWA Cheer (U-13) won the AYF National Championship in Florida while the seventh and eighth grade football teams each advanced to the league semifinals.

AWA also handed out its annual scholarships to six young men and women who have demonstrated excellence in academics and athletics. The 2011 AWA Scholarship winners were Allyson Stillman (Redding), Emma Nayden (Weston), Jacqueline Goetz (Weston), Matthew Pompa (Easton), Steve Gordon (Easton) and James Milne (Weston). These young adults have been with AWA since elementary school.
Also at the banquet were members of the 2008 AYF Seventh Grade Football National Championship team, which went 12-1.

AWA will open registration this year in April with practices beginning Aug. 6 at the AWA's joint practice facility in Easton. All AWA home games are at Weston High School.

The boys basketball team looks to reach .500 on Friday when the Falcons visit Stratford (7 p.m.)
The Falcons improved to 6-7 with Tuesday's 52-40 victory over New Fairfield and need two wins to qualify for the state tournament.
Nolan Stauffer scored 17 points and Phil Moriber added 16 for the Falcons while Jake Lightman grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots for
Barlow.
Stratford (6-6) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 68-60 victory over New Milford on Tuesday.
The Weston boys (6-6) looks to snap a five-game tailspin when the Trojans host New Milford on Friday. The Trojans are coming off a 74-55 loss to Brookfield.
Max Molinsky scored 16 and Evan Blitzer contributed 15 to pace Weston. New Milford enters Friday's ontest with a 4-8 record.
On the girls side, Barlow hosts Stratford and Weston heads to New Milford in a pair of 7 p.m. contests.
The Falcons, who are coming off a 57-39 victory over New Fairfield, look to extend their winning streak to five games. Taylor Auer scored 14 points and Sarah McAniff added 12 against the Rebels as the Falcons improved to 9-5.
Weston also is coming off a victory as Ellie Martin scored 24 points in Tuesday's 44-40 victory over Brookfield. The Trojans, who started 0-4, improved to 6-7.
Stratford (2-11) faced Armistad Academy on Thursday while New Milford defeated Stratford 44-30 on Tuesday to improve to 6-8.
