Cameron Mackey of the Redding Country Club shot a 4-over par 75 Monday to tie for fifth in qualifying for the 70th annual Connecticut Junior Amateur championship at the Watertown Country Club.
Nick Hedden of the New London Country Club earned medalist honors with a 1-over 72.

He will will looking to be the third Hedden to have his name engraved on the Connecticut Junior Amateur trophy. Nick’s father Chris won this championship in 1982 and his uncle Jeff, the reigning CSGA Player of the Year, won back to back titles in 1980 and 1981.

Redding/Easton won the 10-year-old District One softball title with a 9-8 victory over Darien on Sunday.
Redding/Easton advances to the section one tournament, which begins Wednesday in Bridgeport. Its first opponent will be against the district five winner.
