A rain delay and a field change didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the Weston Super 8's as they stayed undeafeated with a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over Ridgefield.

Strong play by Daniel Bello, along with some slick fielding by Andrew Amatom, supported shutout innings on the mound by Nicholas Sacchetta, Alex Olson and Dante Esposito, who again closed out the game with a strikeout.

The Super 8's take to the road again with games in Wilton and Norwalk this week, then return home Saturday at noon to play Easton at Bisceglie #3.

This past week saw more great baseball at Bisceglie fields as the WLL Sandlot program continued. 

The "A" division opened with a huge turnout of players, who got their first experience using the pitching machine that they will see in the fall league.

The AA players also had another large turnout and another great game, as it took eight innings to settle a close, well played contest match.

The "AAA players also played a close game ith some AA stars joining in.

This Saturday, the A and AAA sessions will continue. They will be held most summer Saturdays at 9:30 am at Bisceglie Fields.

AA Sandlot will not be played this week, but will resume next week, playing most Sundays at 11:30am, also at Bisceglie.

Weston's Graham Anderson (men's sculls) has been named to the U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships in Eton Dorney, Great Britain from Aug. 3-7. Anderson will compete with New Canaan's Charlie Campbell.

World champions will be crowned in 13 events including the men’s single sculls, women’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s quadruple sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, men’s pair, women’s pair, men’s four, women’s four, men’s four with coxswain, men’s eight and women’s eight.

At the 2010 World Rowing Junior Championships, the U.S. brought home a record four medals including gold in the men’s eight, silver in the women’s eight and women’s four, and bronze in the men’s single sculls.

Sisters Rosie Grinalds (women's pair) and Lucy Grinalds (women's four) of Southport also earned spots on the team.

The squad also includes three rowers from Westport: Max Meyer-Bosse and Alex Perkins in the men's eight) and Elizabeth Youngling in women's quadruple sculls.

Anderson, who competes for the Maritime Rowing Club in Norwalk, participated in the junior world championships last year.

Other local athletes named to the team include New Canaan's Jonathon Rosow (men's 4x) and Diedre Fitzpactrick (women's 8x) and Ridgefield's Maria Maydan (women's double sculls).

The Redding/Easton 10-year-old softball team completed play in the sectional one softball tournament on Tuesday with an 8-6 victory over North Branford. Redding/Easton finished 1-3 in the tournament.
