Danbury's Frank Bensel carded his second straight 3-under 68 to take a two-shot lead after the second round of the 77th Connecticut Open at the Brooklawn County Club in Fairfield.
First-round David Pastore of Greenwich, who plays out of the E-Club in Fairfield. followed up a 66 with a 5-over 76 to fall to a tie for 12th at 142 - six shots off the lead.

Greenwich's Daniel Balin, who plays out of Burning Tree, continued his steady play with a 2-under 69, leaving him alone in fourth at 139.
Greenwich's Country Club's Jason Caron followed up a first-round 73 with a 67 to move into a tie for fifth with Wilton's Brian Murphy at 140. Pastore and Murphy are amateurs.

Among other local players, Shorehaven's Jerry Courville is tied for seventh at 141 (71-70) and Redding's Jim St. Pierre is deadlocked for 12th after his second straight 71.
Weston's Bernie D'Amato, another amateur, just missed the cut after his second straight 74. The top 40 low scores, plus ties, advanced toWednesday's final round.
Other area players who made the cut were Stamford's Mike Ballo Jr. (145), Greenwich's Reed Howard (145) and Fairfield's John Deigan (146).
Defending champion Kyle Gallo of Kensington, who is seeking a record fifth Connecticut Open title, shot a 69, but is still seven shots behind Bensel in a tie for 18th.
The final round gets under way low Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Weston's Graham Anderson (men's sculls) has been named to the U.S. Junior National Team that will compete in the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championships in Eton Dorney, Great Britain from Aug. 3-7. Anderson will compete with New Canaan's Charlie Campbell.
World champions will be crowned in 13 events including the men’s single sculls, women’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s quadruple sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, men’s pair, women’s pair, men’s four, women’s four, men’s four with coxswain, men’s eight and women’s eight.
At the 2010 World Rowing Junior Championships, the U.S. brought home a record four medals including gold in the men’s eight, silver in the women’s eight and women’s four, and bronze in the men’s single sculls.
Sisters Rosie Grinalds (women's pair) and Lucy Grinalds (women's four) of Southport also earned spots on the team.
The squad also includes three rowers from Westport: Max Meyer-Bosse and Alex Perkins in the men's eight) and Elizabeth Youngling in women's quadruple sculls.
Anderson, who competes for the Maritime Rowing Club in Norwalk, participated in the junior world championships last year.
Other local athletes named to the team include New Canaan's Jonathon Rosow (men's 4x) and Diedre Fitzpactrick (women's 8x) and Ridgefield's Maria Maydan (women's double sculls).
