The Joel Barlow varsity softball team season came to an end Tuesday as the Falcons were routed by New Canaan 13-1 in the first round of the CIAC Class L state tournament.
The Rams had 16 hits and took advantage of eight Barlow errors. New Canaan controlled the game early as the potent Rams' offense scored five runs (three earned) on starter Anne Dolan (4-6).

The Rams were equally hard on reliever Morgan Bonis, who surrendered eight runs over the final two innings as Barlow went down to defeat by way of the mercy rule after five innings.
The Falcons showed some life at the plate as Emma Traggianese and Kacey Hale each had two hits along with Katherine Acocella, McAniff and Victoria Shea each contributing hits.

Barlow's season comes to an end at 11-10, including the program's second consecutive trip to the CIAC state playoffs. Barlow will be graduating two seniors, Traggianese and Giorgio and expect 12 varsity returnees for the 2012 season.
