The Barlow High School varsity softball team celebrated its 11-10 record and trip to the Connecticut Class L state tournament at a team and family banquet at Roberto's of Monroe earlier in the week.
Coach Kristen Fallo addressed the players and families, recapping the 2011 season and confirming that the team will be ready to pursue a third straight CIAC tournament appearance and a return to the SWC playoffs for the first time since 1998.

Junior center fielder Katherine Acocella was a unanimous first team all-conference selection among the 18 SWC coaches. Fallo acknowledged Acocella as "the player who comes to play and gets us going from the leadoff spot," noting the junior's work ethic and commitment to team.
Senior co-captain Emma Traggianese, who will be attending Springfield College in the fall, was voted All-Colonial. Fallo cited Traggianese for her dedication at third base.

"She was a four-year varsity player who played hard and was a leader who will missed," the coach said.
Sophomore first baseman Victoria Shea also was voted All-Colonial for both her bat and impressive play in the field.
"She was the player who held our infield together, making many difficult plays at first to sure up the infield all season," Fallo said.
Sophomore shortstop Sarah McAniff received honorable mention Colonial and was tabbed by Fallo as the Falcons' most improved player.
"Sarah has worked hard in learning a new position these past two years and continues to improve at the spot," Fallo said, referring to McAniff taking on a position foreign to her prior to her arrival at Barlow.
Junior pitcher-first baseman Anne Dolan received the "Coaches Award" for her spirit and leadership. Fallo called Dolan "a player who is always ready when called upon and has stepped up to be one of the team's leaders."
Fallo also took time to recognize the fine career of senior co-captain and catcher Sonia Giorgio, a four year varsity player who was the field general from behind the plate. Giorgio is headed to UConn in the fall.
"Sonia has worked very hard during her time at Barlow and has been a big help to our core of pitchers, and has demonstrated solid leadership skills," Fallo said.
