Weston's Kimmy Guerin,  who claimed her second straight CIAC state Open title earlier this month, is the top seed in the singles draw in the under-16 New England junior section tennis championships.

The competition  is taking place this week at the Yale University courts in New Haven and Guerin advanced to the semifinals on Tuesday with a 6-2, 6-2 over Avon's Hannah Dahlem.

She will face Fairfield's Ellyse Hamlin, the No. 4 seed, on Wednesday at 10. a.m. in the semifinals.  The finals are set for Thursday. 

On Sunday, Guerin lost in the U-16 doubles final with partner Emma Davis of Massachusetts.

-- Redding begins play in the District One Little League tournament on Wednesday against Northrop (Stamford)  at Scalzi Park in Stamford at 5:45 p.m. The team will play six games in pool play through July 10. Weston also opens on Wednesday against Norwalk at Bill Terry Field in Wilton at 5:30 p.m.

 Fairfield American and Fairfield National appear to be on a collision course in the District II Little League tournament as they both posted wins Tuesday to improve to 3-0 in pool play.

Fairfield American defeated Monroe 5-3 and Fairfield National handled Westport 16-2 in games at Bridgeport's Blackham Field.

Two games are scheduled for Wednesday. Trumbull National faces Stratford at Blackham 1 and Easton takes on Park City at Blackham 2. Here are the standings through Tuesday:
