Weston's Kimmy Guerin,  the top seed, fell to No. 4 seed Ellyse Hamlin of Fairfield 6-3, 7-6 (6) Wednesday in the semifinals of the under-16 New England junior section tennis championships at the Yale University courts.

-- Redding opened play in the District One Little League tournament in impressive fashion Wednesday routing Stamford Northrop, 23-2. Weston opened with a 7-1 loss to Norwalk.

Redding is back in action on Friday against North Stamford at Stamford's Chestnut Hill Park (5:45 p.m.) while Weston also plays again on Friday against Wilton at Wilton's Bill Terry Field (7:30 p.m.)

-- In Wednesday's games in the District Two tournament,  Trumbull National defeated Stratford 11-0 and Easton downed Park City 6-2 for its first win in the event.  

On Thursday, Trumbull American battles North End at Bridgeport's Blackham Field (5:30 p.m.) in the only game scheduled.  Here are the standings through Wednesday's games (the top two in each group advance to the double elimination playoffs:
