Weston sophomore Kimmy Guerin is one match away from a second girls state Open tennis title in as many years.

Guerin, the top seed,  blitzed No. 13 seed Courtney Gallagher of New Canaan, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinals on Tuesday. She will face No. 7 seed Hannah Dahlem of Avon in the finals on Wednesday at the Yale University courts.

Weston's duo of Nick Richter-Jack Lawless, the No. 4 seed, lost to top seeds Nick Pelligrino and Joey Strafaci of St. Bernard 6-2, 7-6 (3) in the Class S boys semifinals Tuesday.

In the girls state Open doubles, Weston's tandem of Alexandra Ashmore and Emma Samson, the No. 2 seeds, fell to No. 3 seeds Michele Vogt and Anna Sweeney of Greenwich, 7-6 (2), 6-3.

-- Former Australian Open champion Johan Kriek will join Jacob Kreimer of Fairfield County Tennis for an afternoon of world class instruction and drills on Saturday at the Longshore Tennis Courts in Westport.

They will be exploring "The Modern Game: The Next Level & Beyond" and “Winning Doubles Strategy & Tactics.” The event is being presented by The New Haven Open, Westport Parks & Recreation & The Player’s Edge Tennis Association.

Adults and juniors will be able to take part in the first instructional clinic session on “The Modern Game: The Next Level & Beyond” from 12:30pm-2:30pm for $75 per person or the second clinic on "Winning Doubles Strategy & Tactics" between 2:30PM-4:30PM for $75 per person.

There will be a pro-am doubles tournament following the clinics in which participants will be able to team with pros and compete in top level round robin doubles match play against Kriek and his partner as well as other area teams for prizes.

Kriek is a member of an elite group of tennis professionals who have multiple Grand Slam singles titles, having won the Australian Open in 1981 and 1982.

His all-court game and foot speed carried him to 14 singles and eight doubles titles in his 12-year career on the ATP Tour.

Kriek was ranked as high as seventh in the world at the peak of his career, recording wins over many top players, including Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, Guillermo Vilas, Nannick Noah, Andre Agassi, Michael Chang, Stan Smith, Arthur Ashe, John McEnroe, Pat Cash, Mats Wilander and Stephan Edberg.

Kreimer, a native of Brazil, brings over 40 years of tennis experience to Fairfield County Tennis. He was a ranked top junior in Brazil and the No. 1  player at Concordia College which he attended on a full tennis scholarship.

Kreimer was the head tennis pro at the Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. for eight years, responsible for comprehensive tennis programming for juniors from age four to adult. He is USPTA certified and has been a coach, club administrator and ESPN International announcer who has had the opportunity to work with such tennis greats as Martina Navratilova, Ivan Lendl and Gustavo Kuerten.

Kreimer played a lead part in winning the USTA national men’s 5.0 league championships in 1996 and has reached the finals of the national men’s 35 doubles grasscourts championships.

--Two Weston players -- No. 3 seed Cameron Hagen and No. 5 David Freeman - have reached the quarterfinals of the Class S state tournament.

Hagen will face No. 6 Morgan White on Old Lyme and Freeman takes on  No. 4 Chris Waung of East Catholic.

The quarterfinal matches will be played Monday at Conard starting at 3 p.m.

In doubles, Weston's tamden of Nick Richter-Jack Lawless, the No. 4 seed, faces Valley Regional's unseeded duo of Nicholas Filippides-Michael McKay in the quarterfinals.

Weston's Kimmy Guerin, who helped lead the Trojans to a fifth straight Class S team title last week, has reached the final 16 in the state Open.

Guerin, the top seed, will face No. 16 seed Bianka Horvath of Newington in the third round on Monday at the Yale University courts.

Barlow's Alexandra Greenberg, the  No. 6 seed, also has reached the third round and will square off against No. 11 seed Margot Schumann of Mercy.

Third-round matches start at 1 p.m., followed by the quarterfinals. Guerin won the state Open title last year as a freshman.
