The Joel Barlow varsity softball team dropped two games to run it losing streak to three games as the last week of the season approaches.

Bethel visited Barlow Wednesday and defeated the Falcons 4-1, followed by Thursday's  7-6 road loss to Notre Dame of Fairfield in a pivotal SWC contest.

Bethel ace Yesenia Evaristo struck out 13 batters en route to the Wilcats' win in the front end of a home and home series, which will be completed on the last day of the regular season next Friday.

Barlow threatened on several occasions but failing to play small ball in key bunt situations that would have given the Falcons the chance to keep the game close.

Anne Dolan (4-4) went the distance in a fine performance, giving up five runs (four earned) while scattering nine hits to go along with three strikeouts and two walk.

The Falcons' only run came in their last at bat.  Kate Marsahll led off the seventh with single to center and moved to second on Victoria Shea' sacrifice bunt.  Katherine Acocella followed with blast to deep left for a double to score Marshall.

Barlow was led by Sonia Giorgio's 2-for-4 performance along with Acocella's two base hit and RBI  in an otherwise silent Falcons' attack.

The Falcons traveled to Fairfield on Thursday to take on a constantly improving Notre Dame that was shut-out 10-0 by Barlow earlier in the season.  Barlow came up on the short end of a 7-6 heartbreaker in the contest that will count toward the year-end SWC records.

Dolan started the game and lasted only two innings as the Lancers' bats were in full force, banging out six hits over the first two innings to open a  5-3  lead.

Dolan yielded to Morgan Bonis. who took the loss in relieft, allowing two earned runs over four innings on five hits.  Bonis fanned two and hit one batter.

The Falcons kept fighting back until a sixth-inning RBI single by Jordan D'Aurio put the game out of reach as Barlow went down in order in the seventh to end the game.

The Falcons' overall record now stands at 8-8 and 6-7 in the SWC.  The target number of wins to place the Falcons in sight of an SWC berth is probably three wins in the final four regular season games.

Barlow travels to Oxford on Monday and hosts Kolbe Cathedral on Senior Day next Wednesday.
