The Barlow softball team combined great pitching and solid hitting with flawless defense to defeat Stratford 13-1 on Thursday.
Even though it was technically a home game for Barlow, the contest was played in Stratford due to the wet field conditions in Redding.

Morgan Bonis (6-4) went the distance for Barlow, scattering three hits over five innings in a game that was shortened because of the mercy rule. She struck out six and walked only two.
The Falcons' defense played errorless ball to back Bonis, whose 1.65 ERA is tops in the Colonial Division.

Offensively, the Barlow bats were lively as they pounded out 10 hits. Bonis helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.
Emma Traggianes (1-for-2, two runs scored and three RBI), Katherine Acocella (1- for-3, three runs scored, a walk and stolen base) and Anne Dolan (1-for-2, two walks and one RBI) paced Barlow's attack.
The Falcons (10-8, 8-8 in SWC play), who host Kolbe-Cathedral at home on Saturday at 12 p.m, are in a wait mode as they are still close to reaching the SWC playoffs for the first time since 1998.
Saturday is senior day. The festivities kick off at 11:4o a.m. and Barlow invites all families from Easton and Redding to come cheer on the Falcons.
Barlow senior co-captain Sonia Giorgio and Emma Traggianse will play in their final regular-season game for the Falcons. The two four-year starters have helped spearhead Barlow's return to the softball stage in southwestern Connecticut while demonstrating leadership on and off the field.
The players have endured some rough patches over the past few years to help lead the Falcons to a position of being among the elite teams in the area. The Falcons (10-8 overall, 8-8 in SWC) have qualified for the state tournament for the second consecutive year.
Giorgio, the Falcons' starting catcher for two seasons, is currently batting .232 with 13 hits, 15 runs scored and six RBI.
Traggianese, a three-year starter at third base, is hitting .298 with 14 hits, 11 runs scored and 10 RBI.
