Weston-Barlow Scores and Standings: Nov. 1

The Joel Barlow varsity field hockey team, coming off a dominating 3-0 shutout of Newtown High School last Friday in the first round of the SWC playoffs, is anxiously awaiting a league decision on when the semifinal matches will be played, given the current power outages throughout the area.

Saturday's snow storm has caused area communities to cancel school this week. Region 9 has canceled Barlow through at least Wednesday, pending power being returned to the community.

The Falcons' semifinal contest versus New Fairfield, 4-1 winners over 2010 SWC champion Pomperaug, was scheduled for Tuesday evening at Weston High School, but has been postponed, pending ER9 and SWC decisions.

The other SWC semifinal pitting top-seeded Lauralton Hall, which blanked Bethel 2-0, New Milford (a 2-0 winner over Immaculate) also in limbo and slated for Weston

The second seeded Falcons are eagerly awaiting word from the SWC as to when the semifinals will be re-scheduled. The Barlow players are also awaiting notification of when they might be able to practice following the storm aftermath.

In other news involving Barlow sports, the Falcons' game against Bunnell in the semifinals of the SWC boys soccer playoffs has been postponed to Thursday at Pomperaug (5 p.m.)

Barlow advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 quarterfinal victory over Newtown. In the other semifinal, Bethel will take on Pomperaug at 7 p.m.
